It has been really busy this second half term!! Several of our children took part in visits during the first week of half term and the Centre for Life visited our school with their Astro Maths Road Show for years 5 and 6!
Years 3, 4 and 5 visited the cinema as part of the cinema festival week. Reception Class and Years 1 and 2 had a great afternoon with Zoo Lab where they had the opportunity to hold various unusual animals! Class 6 visited the cinema during the third week and learnt how to travel safely on public transport in preparation for High School!!
Class 2 visited the Lemington Resource Centre to interview the staff about the building and their roles. They were also shown around and had a short play session in the garden.
Children who had 100% attendance during the Autumn first half term were invited to an attendance party on Tuesday afternoon.
Thank you to all parents who completed the questionnaire at the end of last half term. The results are now on the Parents section of our website.
We became an Operation Encompass school from 7th November. We will be informed by Social Care if any child has been involved in, the previous day, a domestic violence incident. This will enable us to know about children who are experiencing difficulties and support them as they may need it. If you have not received a letter about this or would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.
Barnados Young Carers
During last week should have received information from school about our KS1 and KS2 children taking part in sessions led by Barnados Young Carers Staff. Please look out for this information. The class sessions are to be held on Wednesday 23rd November. If you would like further information or would like to discuss these sessions please do not hesitate to contact us.
Attendance w/c 14th November
During this week 130 children have had 100% attendance and a girl in year 4 won the £5 voucher. Class Two had 100% attendance during this week!! Congratulations!
Class Two had the best class attendance for w/c 7th November at 99.5% followed closely by Reception Class at 97.8%!!
A boy in Class 6 won the £5 voucher for week commencing 31st October.
A girl in Class 6 won the £5 voucher for the week commencing 17th October and Class One had the best weekly attendance !!
After a shaky start to the school year our attendance is slowly starting to improve!!
A big 'Thank You' to Vision Supply Agency who are going to supply one £5 voucher to our school on a weekly basis which can be used in the Metro Centre or Eldon Square. Children who have 100% attendance for that week will be entered into a draw and the winner will receive the voucher!! This incentive begins week commencing 19th September. The first weekly draw will take place on Monday 26th September.
In the light of the new 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' document we have recently updated our Safeguarding Policy. This is available on our Parents Section of the website under 'Policies'. We urge you to view it.
Nursery - You must apply now for a reception place in September 2017. If your child was born between 1st September 2012 and 31st August 2013 it is now time to apply for a school place for them to start school in a reception class in September 2017. The deadline for submitting your application is midday (12 noon) on 15th January 2017

KS2 SAT Results
Well done to our year 6 children - excellent results - we are very proud of you!!
Reading - 90% of our children achieved the expected level against the national average of 66%
Writing - 90% of our children achieved the expected level against the national average of 74%
Maths - 90% of our children achieved the expected level against the national average of 70%
Combined reading, writing and maths - 90% of our children achieved the expected level against the national average of 53%
English, grammar, Punctuation and spelling - 80% of our children achieved the expected level against the national average of 72%

We would like to say thank you to parents and carers for continuing to help your children to learn their spellings!! We have recently looked at their books and there is a definite improvement in spelling across the school! The children are also improving their weekly spelling scores. Your support has had a positive impact!!
Family Support drop in - Paula Stone is available every Wednesday (term time) to give support with children's health, behaviour, attendance, problems at home and at school. You can also talk to a Nurse who will be there the first Wednesday of every month, in the Parents Room, Key Stage 1 building, 8:45 - 9:30am.
Thank you to all of the children who voted for themes for our new playground sheds, following suggestions by School Council members. The winning themes are Pirates for the KS1 shed and Horrid Henry for the KS2 shed. Watch this space for updates!
